About Communication

According to the Oxford Dictionary, communication is "the imparting or exchanging of information by speaking, writing, or using some other medium".
Therefore, the video project can also be regarded as a form of communication between the video maker and the audience. What makes it different from other forms of communication is that the information is delivered through both audio and visual presentation. However, the exchange of information is separated in time, since a video is made before it is shown to the audience. The information that the video maker plans to deliver to the audience is cast all at once and there is no way to response to the audience's questions while they are watching the video. Therefore, in order to communicate efficiently with the audience, the video maker should take the audience's standing point into consideration and think ahead what the audience expectation and reaction would be.
To achieve an efficient communication in a video project, I think there are several principles to follow. First, there should be a core information, around which the video is structured and developed. The video should have a fluent and logical organization to make it easy for the audience to  follow. Too much side information will distract the audience from understanding the main message of the video. Second, the visual representation should be a good counterpart of the script, so that they go well with each other and enhance the audience's understanding of the information. Third, the content, including the language, should be clear and easy to follow, so that the audience will learn some new information based on what they have already known. Therefore, there should be an assumption of the audience's knowledge on certain subject before the video is made.
I think the video project is a very unique way to learn Japanese, from which I can learn not only Japanese language, but also its culture and other techniques beyond language, such as video making, plotting and editing. Working on miso soup, one of the traditional Japanese food, I can learn more about its food culture and history.  To write the script will be challenging, but also a precious opportunity to really use Japanese as means of communication. And through writing the script and editing, I expect to be learn more Japanese language skills outside the textbook. It will also be a good training for oral ability.
Communication for me is very important, which takes place everyday. Through various means of communication, such as making phone calls back home, discussing with classmates about study and daily life, I learn new things and feel like connecting with the world I am living in.
